My New Scalping

Last night was a very traumatic time for me. I went to get my hair cut and decided that it was time to shave my beard. It's been forever since I shaved completely, so I figured what the hell. Don't get me wrong, I'm letting it grow back immediately. When you look at this picture, you'll see why. I feel naked and I hate it. Either way, I thought I'd post this picture as evidence because it's been several years since anyone has seen me without hair on my face. I hope it grows back fast!

A Note To Mom

Dear Mom,

We hate it that you're in Chicago again this week for work, so we're wondering aimlessly around the house at night. Sony and Yoshi are pretty good about staying in their bed and out of my way, but I've been running downstairs every time I hear a car door shut. I think it's you!!! But it's not. So mom, here are a few pictures of us boys while you're away. Can't wait until you come home...

Oh, can you get me a really nice bone while you're there? I hear they're the best in the world. Dad wants a new t-shirt, too.

Love, Blueboy

Molly's Shower

Today was Molly's shower for James David Moore. Everything was beautiful and Kristen did a fantastic job hosting it. Scott and I had the luxury of going to Oklahoma Joe's BBQ while the festivities were underway. Congratulations Molly and Colin!!!

Beatbox Trickery

I realize that I may lose some of you here, but...

I've been known to do some beatboxing in my time. I even get regular requests from friends and co-workers to hear some of it. But this guy blows my mind. Not that he's a good beatboxer, but the editing on this clip must have taken weeks to do. If nothing else, it's funny as hell and I thoroughly had a good laugh from it.

Happy Friday Everyone!!! Have a great weekend.

Q's New Blog

If you look to the right of the page, you'll notice I've added a new link to the site. Lil' Q (Quinlan - our cousin) has a new blog site! And wouldn't you know it, he picked one of our favorite photos to kick it all off. You better visit regularly because Kristen and I are certain you'll get a laugh or two. We even hope to see a picture of him with Halloween Boy in the near future.

The McMahons

Kristen and I just had a visit from Shaun, Tammy, and Vincenza. It was great to finally meet little Vincenza (Enza). She’s very cute! On our visit, Shaun and Tammy discovered that Enza likes jello. She couldn’t get enough of it. I also had the pleasure of feeding her some chocolate ice cream and a famous Starr PB&J. I think she liked me for that. Anyway, our visit was very nice. It was great to see you Shaun and Tammy. Thanks again for coming to visit. You are welcome any time.

A Jobim Dedication

Sometimes it is hard to describe music in the literal sense. Therefore, I find it better to write about how I relate it to feelings I have or the images it conjures in my head. This is the easiest music I could write about because it instantly takes me to beautiful places. In 1967, a Brazilian musician named Antonio Carlos Jobim (pronounced Joe-Beem) made an album called Wave that essentially popularized the genre known as bossa nova. Wave has since become one of my favorite albums ever and one that I listen to on a very regular basis.

Since its release 40 years ago, many have celebrated Wave’s beauty. To be honest, I feel privileged to be one of the only people of my age group to “get it.” To my surprise, I recently discovered an album of Jobim covers done by two of today’s finer avant-garde musicians. One is Ryuichi Sakamoto (Japan) and the other is Jacques Morelenbaum (France). Morelenbaum’s wife Paula provides the vocals for the album. It is titled A Day in New York, and it is quite possibly the sexiest music I have heard in my life. Talk about the perfect music for a nice dinner. WOW!

Over the last several years, I have spent many a night drinking red wine and absorbing the elegant sounds of Jobim. However, what these three have produced with their ode to Jobim (and several others) is just awe-inspiring to me. I have never heard music that makes me feel so good. Well, thanks to my newest addiction (and I mean addiction), youtube.com, I have been able to find many videos of this trio performing these songs. Here is one of my favorites from the set, called “Sabia.” I hope you enjoy it. Oh…I am willing to make a CD for any of you who requests it.

Here is a review I wrote for Jobim's album Wave last year.

Neko on Leno

My favorite singer/songwriter of all-time, Neko Case, finally made a television appearance recently on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. LOVE HER!
